Achen and her twin sister Apio were born to a young mother, just 15 years old. The pregnancy was due to unforeseen circumstances and therefore unplanned, but even her own mother (the girl’s grandmother) refused to welcome her back home. Their mother did her best to take care of the twins after they were born, but at her young age and vulnerable state, she was unable to obtain employment and was not able to provide for herself or her little girls. She had nowhere to sleep, no food to eat and she had lost all hope.
Achen and Apio became sick and malnourished and were close to death when a neighbor offered to help. She brought them to a children’s home where they lived for two years. Unfortunately, due to corruption and removal of donor support, the organization was shut down and Achen and Apio found themselves facing a very uncertain life again. The city probation officer was made aware of the situation and it was determined that the girls could not safely be resettled with their mother. This was when PFP was asked to step in.
In January 2018, Achen and her twin sister Apio joined the PFP family and have found safety and security there. Peace for Paul continues to focus on their physical and emotional healing and provides a safe place for them to grow. The PFP social workers continue to work hard to identify family for the children to be connected with as well. Their mother has gone missing and their grandmother is unwilling to welcome them for visits, however they do have an aunt who visits them at Love Home during school holidays. They enjoy visits with her and PFP continues to support family unity as much as possible.
