Umaru’s Story
Umaru’s father abandoned the family when he was very young and Umaru now lives with only his mother and siblings. Umaru’s mom is a tailor who works hard to support her family but after buying food and paying rent, there is not enough left over to pay school fees for the children. Umaru loves studying so much that he used to sneak into the classroom just to learn, but when time came for registration of exams, he was always turned away.
Now a part of the PFP Juniors program, Umaru attends a highly ranked primary school and has big dreams to become a doctor someday, so he can “get sick people healed”. While PFP supports him with education and medical expenses, Umaru continues to live with his mother and siblings, who he loves very much. His mother works hand in hand with PFP and is proud to play a role in supporting Umaru in being able to attend school (and take his exams) regularly.
