    Lotukei’s Story

“My life before Peace for Paul was always very difficult. My brothers and sisters and I struggled to have food and shelter. Our father is a very bad man. He would beat and torture my mother and the children. He would threaten to kill us if we did not leave. I watched my father attempt to kill my mother and I will never forget this time.

My mother asked my sister to take me from Moroto to Masese where I would be safe. Even when I went to live with my sister away from the threats of violence from my father, life was not good. We had to work in the streets helping vendors or begging for food. I would also look after children and wash clothes to make some small money for living.

I have been so grateful to now be with Peace for Paul. My life is safe and there is no violence. I have good food and medicine if I am ill. I am studying in secondary school and want to succeed so I can help my family have a good life someday.”
