    Lotukei’s Story

“My life before Peace for Paul was always very difficult. My brothers and sisters and I struggled to have food and shelter. Our father is a very bad man. He would beat and torture my mother and the all of us children. He would threaten to kill us if we did not leave. I watched my father attempt to kill my mother and I will never forget this time.

My mother asked my sister to take me from Moroto to Masese where I would be safe. Even when I went to live with my sister away from the threats of violence from my father, life was not good. We had to work on the streets helping vendors or begging for food. I would also look after children and wash clothes to make some small money for living.”

In 2011, Lotukei was welcomed home to the safety and stability of The Peace for Paul family. Sadly, in 2016, Lotukei’s sister committed suicide and her niece was brought home to stay with PFP as well. Lotukei misses her sister but has peace knowing that her niece Priscilla will grow up safe and healthy. In 2019, her beloved mother died which left Lotukei without hope of returning home to be with her. Lotukei struggles with depression and had been invited to live as a part of Doctor Mufumba’s (PFP’s doctor and mental health professional) family. He has since passed away, but Lotukei still resides there with Doctor Mufumba’s wife Rose and his four children, who are now like Lotukei’s own family. PFP continues to support Lotukei for education and all expenses of living.

Lotukei says: “I am so grateful to now be with Peace for Paul. My life is safe and there is no violence. I have good food and medicine if I am ill. I am studying a diploma program in catering and hotel management at the YMCA and am so excited for what is to come”.
