Ashiraf is the 3rd born of four children. All four siblings are being raised by their single mother, Ana. Ashiraf was born and raised in the Masese slum, just outside of Jinja Uganda. While financially life was always difficult for the family, Ashiraf found love and support in his mother. Ana did her best to care for her four children and through her beadwork and sales to tourists, she was able to sometimes pay school fees for Ashiraf. However, she was not able to raise the school fees required for him to attend regularly and he was often chased away from the school. Despite the struggles to pay fees and to find enough food to eat, Ashiraf always valued education and usually comes in top of his class.
Ashiraf’s mother Ana is a hard-working woman whose dream is to see her children succeed and rise up out of the poverty they were born into. With a little hand up from PFP Ana is able to send Ashiraf to attend a private boarding school where he can focus on his education and on his future without fear of being chased away from school due to unpaid school fees.
