    Promise’s Story

Promise’s father passed away in 2014 which left Promise, her two sisters and their mother alone with no support. Since the death of their father, life was difficult for the family and they would often find themselves homeless, wandering the streets looking for work, food and a place to sleep. Promise and her mother volunteered at a local church cleaning the grounds in exchange for food. Unfortunately, this work was not consistent and the family often went without food and other basics for days on end. Out of desperation, their mother turned to prostitution in an effort to try and provide for her children. Unfortunately, she contracted HIV and has been sick with the disease since 2015. She continued to earn money the only way she knew how-by selling her body for money to willing men. The prostitution happened in the same one room home that the three small girls lived, which put their lives and well being at great risk. Her mother pleaded with The Peace for Paul Foundation to rescue Promise and her sisters so they would have a chance at a better life. In 2017 Tracy, Patience and Promise were welcomed into the PFP family and are now looking toward their future with hope.

Promise now attends a highly ranked private boarding school and wants to become a nurse one day. In the three years that Promise and her sisters lived with PFP, their mother had a chance to settle and focus on a way out. She has since retired from prostitution and has obtained a certificate in tailoring. She runs a small business as a tailor and is able to provide basic necessities for herself. During school holidays, the girls spend time with their mother at her home. PFP continues to support Promise with education and medical related expenses, and the PFP social worker makes weekly home visits to ensure her safety and well being.  Promise enjoys spending time with her mother and loves learning about and being a part of her culture.
