Nakayi was born to parents in deep poverty, living in Njeru Uganda. She is the second youngest of four children, with three siblings Fresher, Teddy and Esau also in the PFP program.
The children were left to raise themselves due to addiction and neglect. They struggled to obtain food and water and were often left in precarious situations on their own. It came to a point where the eldest brother, Fresher, became the head of the young family of siblings and would lead them outside to look for leftover food. He sought out odd jobs to earn some money to supplement as well.
Finally, the children’s struggle was brought to the attention of the authorities who forwarded the case to the local police. In 2019, both parents were arrested. It was at this time that Nakayi and her siblings were brought to The Peace for Paul Foundation.
For a year the four siblings stayed together at PFP’s Hope and Love Homes and were nurtured back to health. They had a safe place to call home, and loving aunties and uncles to ensure all of their needs were met and that they knew the meaning of love and support. They all attend school and are now looking toward their future with hope.
In 2020, Nakayi’s mother and father were released from prison. They were sober and had received parenting training. Now they do small jobs in the village and although they are unable to afford school fees for Nakayi and his siblings, they love getting to spend time with their children and take pride in now being able to provide a home for school holidays. PFP continues to support Nakayi with education and medical related expenses. The PFP social worker makes weekly home visits to ensure Nakayi’s safety and well being.
