    Flavia’ Story

Flavia loves attending school and playing sports. She is an active netballer and wants to become a nurse someday. Flavia lived with her mother after her father left the family when she was a very young girl. Her mother remarried but the stepdad was a violent man who routinely beat Flavia and her younger siblings. Flavia often tried to defend the younger children and stop the beatings.  This angered the stepfather to the point he threatened to “teach her a lesson she would never forget”.

He followed through on his threat and tragically he raped Flavia. The abuse went on for a time until she could no longer stand it. Flavia ran away from home and found work as a “house girl”. When her employers realized she was pregnant they chased her away. Flavia ran to an old friend’s house and it was from here, that she was encouraged to go to the police to report the rapes. Upon reporting what had happened to her, the police arrested the stepfather but sadly Flavia’s mother blamed her and attempted to kill Flavia and her unborn child. Finally, the local chairperson stepped in and offered a safe home for Flavia until she gave birth. The mother was arrested for the attempted murder and from the safety of the local chairperson’s home, Flavia gave birth.

Just five days after Baby Mary was born, the Ugandan government asked Peace for Paul to step in to help. Flavia is staying at PFP’s Love Home and our nurse is attacehd closely to her while we work on recovery.  We are working hard to find Flavia a loving home in which she can grow up and feel safe in. Through a sponsorship with PFP, Flavia will return to school and will continue to pursue her dreams. There is hope for her and we believe that with enough love and support, she will recover and will live the life she deserves to live.
