William’s Story
William lives with his mother Oliver, and his three sisters in Mbikko, Uganda. His father abandoned the family in 2008 after meeting another woman. When he tried to sell the house that William and his family lived in, his mother refused. After her refusal to sell the family’s home, William’s father became so angry that he stopped providing support for his family and has since disappeared. Since his disappearance, Oliver has tried her best to support her family and works for neighbors washing clothes, tailoring and babysitting. Unfortunately, the income from this work has not been enough to send her children to school past primary level and the two eldest girls have dropped out. William was often chased from school due to failure to pay school fees.
Now a part of the PFP Juniors program, William attends a highly ranked school and has big dreams to become an engineer, so he can one day help support his family. While PFP supports William with education and medical costs, he continues to live with his mother and loves her very much.
