Sula was born to his mother and father in Mbale District. When he was just a baby, his mother disappeared and never returned, leaving Suula with his father. His father was extremely abusive toward Suula and would leave him tied to a banana tree with nothing but a cup of porridge to get him through the day. Suula was reported to be both physically and emotionally starved in this time. After time, his father remarried. Suula’s new stepmother was abusive toward him as well. She beat him regularly and continued to use starvation as a form of punishment. When his father came home from his day away from home, it was reported that he would continue the abuse. It was after 6 years of living through this, finally a neighbor noticed what he was going through and reported the case to the police. Suula’s father was arrested. Taken to court and eventually imprisoned for a course of 6 months. The neighbor who reported the abuse offered a haven for Suula while a suitable more permanent home could be found. Sadly, the wife to the kind neighbor herself began abusing Suula and so the kind neighbor brought him to the police station to save him from his own wife. Suula is 6 years old, but due to his extensive history of abuse, he is not able to speak yet.

It was at this point, that Suula was brought to the Peace for Paul foundation where he was welcomed with open arms. Now safe with a loving family, Suula will never again know abuse and he will be able to look forward to his future with hope. He will know love, security and will have three round meals a day. He will be treated medically for severe malnutrition, and he will be seen daily by the PFP therapist as he learns to overcome his past. He will eventually attend school and we have full faith that he will make a turnaround and will know happiness and success in his lifetime.
