January 2019-Part 2

9th Annual Anywhere in the World Raffle

PFP Directors and Members are selling (only 2,000 total) tickets for $20 each with a chance to win two round trip tickets to ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, ON ANY AIRLINE! The drawing will be held March 25th, 2019 at La Provence in Lake Oswego, Oregon (you DO NOT need to be present to win). This is one of two annual fundraisers that we rely on in order to keep our programs running smoothly. We hope you will take part!

Sponsor Needed in our ‘A Hand Up (AHU)’ Program

‘A Hand Up’ aims to enable vulnerable young adults in our community to become functioning members of society and continue the cycle of giving and hope. Why have we started this new program for young adults? Because it’s very hard to get a job in Uganda and the right skills and education can be the difference maker.

Successful applicants are vulnerable young men and women who are determined, hard working, skilled and who have a desire to give back. The recipients are not receiving a hand out–rather they are receiving a hand up. We will provide financial assistance and mentorship to hard working young adults to provide a means to improve their lives by completing their education, learning a trade or starting a business. Applicants will be expected to continue the cycle of giving.

Sseguya (aka Charles) is in need of a $70/month sponsor. Could you be the one he’s been looking for?

Charles is talented in dance, acting, and more, but his future aspirations lie in the field of videography, photography and motion graphics. He is taking a two year certificate program in photography, videography, 3D Animation and Motion Graphics. Due to the cost, few people can take this course and so he will be well placed for work once he’s done.

As part of our program, Charles will work closely with us to benefit the PFP children. Not only is he participating in teaching the dance and fitness classes each week with the children, he is also going to do some photography and videography for PFP. Our very own photographer/videographer!!! So great!!

We are looking for one more partner at $70/month to help Charles. He’ll do all the hard work. He just needs a little hand up!

Nile River Farms

Pigs are thriving! We currently have 22 piglets and are expecting 14 additional piglets in the next couple of months. We will be expanding the piggery and growing the current piglets until they can be sold. The hope is that we will be able to scale up this business model and start using profits to partially fund the organization’s operations.

Transition age students continue to gain work experience on the farm and this holiday have been working on construction of an askari house. They also continue to harvest crops and weed the farm.

Love Home Mural

This holiday, the Love Home wall received a very special touch up by one of our AHU recipients. Levy worked for 4 days to paint a special mural on the wall at Love Home. It’s so beautiful and everyone loves it!

New Love Home Caretaker

Our newest caretaker Isaac, is fitting into his new role beautifully. Our young children at Love Home absolutely adore him. We are so grateful for the work he’s doing.

Annual Sponsor Packages

Thank you so much to all of the sponsors who sent packages to their children. They were of course thrilled and absolutely loved seeing the pictures and letters you sent.

The PFP Junior Program

The third term has ended at school and we celebrated with a big holiday party!  We played games, enjoyed lunch and everybody got new clothes!

We have big plans to sponsor another 15 children starting first term in 2019.  If you or someone you know is interested, they could really use your help.  Sponsorship is only $35 USD per month and will cover school supplies, uniforms and some or all of the school fees depending on the family’s ability to contribute.  This sponsorship also supports many community handouts of school supplies to local students who often lack even the basics of pencils and paper to study.  Please contact hope@peaceforpaulfoundation.org to get involved!

The PFP Junior Program allows us to help a larger number of needy Ugandan children obtain an education. The children who benefit from this program live in our neighborhood, however, their parents or guardians are unable to afford the full amount of school fees, uniforms and school supplies which are often more than a family can earn in a month. Because these children have families to look after them, they will not be living in our homes. Rather, they will live with their families and be sponsored through PFP for educational support. This program is designed to be a partnership with parents who care for their child but need support to ensure their child can obtain an education and have a positive future. The parents contribute a small portion when they are able to keep them involved and empowered to educate their children instead of depending solely on handouts. This program allows an education to be attainable for so many children and their families. In addition, we are saving and planning for the much higher costs of secondary school for the students.

“All kids need is a little help, a little hope and someone who believes in them.”

Family Sponsorship Opportunities

We are always looking for general sponsors to help cover the extra costs associated with keeping The Peace for Paul Foundation operating smoothly and the children happy and healthy. Essentially, as a general family sponsor, you are the sponsor of ALL of the children. We have opportunities for Medical Family Sponsor, Dental Family Sponsor as well as Mental Health Family Sponsor. A Family Sponsor commitment can be – $25/$50/$100 per month.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this opportunity. hope@peaceforpaulfoundation.org

Bulungi Beads

The Bulungi Beads Etsy shop features beautiful Ugandan jewelry handmade by women working hard in the slums of Masese and by the young men and women learning the skill in the PFP program.

Beads are purchased from the women and PFP artisans to support their growing businesses and their families. All profits are sent back to the women and to the PFP program to help pay for food, clothing, school tuition and supplies. We thank you so much for your contribution to this cause. Click here to view our shop!

Our shop manager Tara got to check in with the artisans in Uganda last month and see some of their new creations!  They are so incredibly thankful for all of the support and were happy to show exactly how the beads are made.  Our girls in the PFP program were thrilled to model some of the newest items!

Bulungi Beads Education Scholarship

Bulungi Beads has been profitable enough over the last year that we were able to launch the scholarship portion of this program in May! One child of each of the Bulungi Beads ladies will benefit. Faraji, Bush and Rachel continue into their second term at boarding school. Not as a handout, not as a sponsorship, but as a direct result of their own parents’ hard work and beautiful products. We are so proud of this program and hope it will continue to grow so these mothers may educate the rest of their children too!
